Here we have three stories, one is a man who is in point to die, Paul Rivers (Sean Penn). A woman, Cristina Peck (Naomi Watts) that her husband and daughters died knocking down by a car. And an ex convict, Jack Jordan(Benicio del Toro), who became a christ fan and make lot of mistakes without blame.

Those stories connect one each other with the car accident caused by Jack, who drive like a crazy and crash with Michael Peck(Danny Huston), Cristina’s husband, killing him and his daughters… Paul is dying and need a heart to live, while his girlfriend try to have a baby, he isn’t so happy with this idea, because he wants care the baby himself…

Michael is death and Cristina give his heart to someone, who she doesn’t knows who is, it’s a rule for be a donor. Paul has Michael’s heart and, even he doesn’t knows either who is the owner of his heart he is so eager to know. Quickly investigate who is, and here met Cristina, who at first, doesn’t like the idea to has friends, and life again. Cristina, after family’s death, began to smoke drugs and alcohol….
